Hello All Havasu Hobie Racing enthusiasts!
Yes, this weekend is the big race and everybody in Havasu is waiting for us to put on our show! Remember, when you come into the town and approach the island that McCulloch Blvd is the road to the London Bridge and cannot be accessed from the main highway. When on the main highway, McCulloch is an overpass. You must turn up either Mesquite Ave. or Swanson Ave. toward the town and get immediately onto Lake Havasu Ave. for a block and turn onto McCulloch from there to access the London Bridge over to the Island. It took me a trip or two to get that down. Just trying to save you a little confusion. Make sure you do not turn on London Bridge Rd, or you will end up on the wrong route. Check Havamega.com for the great maps that Larry Austin has put there for your benefit, and remember my little hint. Also, if you look at the maps, you will note the seemingly chaotic layout of the roads in Lake Havasu City. They were designed that way so that the most homes possible would have a good view of the lake. Don't go too far up any road off the highway or you will get lost!
Having checked the extended forecast, it appears we are in for a low pressure system through the area this weekend. I've checked three sites and they all call for rain on Saturday, and some sun on Sunday. The temperature is also predicted to be at the low end of the local spectrum at about 66-68 degrees. This is rare in the middle of the Mohave desert. Therefore, bring your foul weather gear to wear on the water. It will be cool, but not as cold as we are often used to during summer at many coastal venues. Because of the low pressure, I'm hoping for good wind though and that is certainly what we want. Last weekend was 75-80 at the beach and on Sunday the wind was a full 20+ mph with about 2' surf. Lots of Woo Hoo! It had light gusts and resembled a good day at Long Beach in July.
Remember, Friday nite is build your own burger(gratis) at the Lake Havasu Yacht Club on London Bridge Rd. with an open bar. We've got great t-shirts at hand, a little raffle, delicious trophies for the lucky ones, and a fun time on the water. Plenty of support boats means we will sail in most conditions up to 25mph, so get ready to rumble. A large 16 fleet is pre-registered, with an excellent showing by the 18's and 20's. We could really use another 17 from somewhere!
Can't wait 'til Saturday and thank you for your support, Gordo
